Good News! MD Route 198 (near airport) is back open to through traffic.

5/2/2014 at 10am Prince George's County Police District VI said that they have learned from Ft. Meade officials that eastbound Maryland Route 198 at the Ft. Meade bridge east of I-295 before I-32 will be closed "indefinitely" due to a need for extensive bridge repairs. This will seriously impact commuters. One alternate route is to take I-32 East, vice Route 198 East (from I-295 or Route 1).

The Directorate of Emergency Services has announced that MD Route 198 (the section of the roadway leading to the bridge near MD Route 32) will continue to be closed until at least tomorrow. The Maryland Transportation Division has an inspection scheduled tomorrow to see if the bridge can be reopened. The closing of this section of Route 198 will continue to impact commuters and Fort Meade traffic. Please plan accordingly and reroute trips and commuting in this area.

The bridge adjacent to MD RT 198 is closed due to flooding. The early assessment conducted by DES this morning is that the road is severely damaged and it is anticipated the roadway will be closed for an extended period of time. The Maryland Highway Department is assessing the damage and repairs cannot begin until the water recede. Please plan accordingly and reroute trips and commuting in this area.
