CITY OF LAUREL PRESS RELEASE

Be Flood Smart: Changes Coming Soon to Flood Insurance Cost

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has updated the 100-Year Flood Plain map because the risk of flooding increases over the years due to erosion, weather events, land use, and other factors.

Some properties that didn’t require flood insurance in the past may need it now and April 1st is the deadline to get it!

To [see your local flood plane map and] purchase flood insurance at a discounted rate, check now by visiting http://mema.maryland.gov/Pages/floodProneZones.aspx to see if your home or business may be included ... in a high risk zone requiring flood insurance.

Once the Federal subsidies dry up in the next couple of weeks, you will have to pay full price, which could climb to thousands of dollars. Check now, before it’s too late!
