Dec 5 New Traffic Light on Bowie Road/Lafayette Avenue

City of Laurel Press Release

New Traffic Light on Bowie Road/Lafayette Avenue

In the interest of improving safety, the City of Laurel, in cooperation with Prince George’s County, has installed a traffic signal at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Bowie Road.

The new signal will change the normal traffic pattern from two-way traffic to one lane at a time. Pedestrian countdown signals have also been installed for safe crossing from the north side of Bowie Road to the south side. Public Works Director, Rob Ferree says “the new traffic light, along with the countdown signals, will improve the flow of traffic as well as make the underpass safer for pedestrians.”

The new traffic light will operate on “flash mode” beginning December 5th and will go into full operation on Thursday, December 11th.

Construction on the raised sidewalk along the south side of the underpass will begin the week of December 15th.
