Greetings!

The 433rd Session of the Maryland Legislature is in full swing and the pace has been tremendous.  It is anticipated that 2,600 measures will come before the General Assembly.  You can view this session's legislation by visiting the General Assembly's new website .  The website also lets you view committee and hearing schedules, budget documents,   legislative reports, and much more.  You can also listen to Senate and House proceedings live as they happen.

Last week, Governor O'Malley delivered the 2013 State of the State Address before the General Assembly.  Click here to listen to his speech.  The Governor has released the FY 2014 budget as well as laid out his legislative priorities for the year which can be viewed on his website .

As I begin my third session in Annapolis, I continue to serve as a member of the House Judiciary Committee as well as the Prince George's County Law Enforcement Subcommittee.  Locally I am proposing legislation which will help strengthenour County's school system and keep our juveniles on the right path towards adulthood.  I believe that stakeholder involvement on all levels is what will keep our County a safe and desirable place to live and raise a family.

Statewide I am sponsoring bills which include tax credits for veterans, strengthening drunk driving laws, restitution for crime victims, parity for juveniles involved in the criminal justice system, coordination of healthcare services for at-risk youths, and more.

I can do my best work by listening to my constituents and getting their input.  So I encourage you to stay in touch with your thoughts and opinions.  Please call my office at 301-858-3101 or e-mail me at geraldine.valentino@house.state.md.us if you would like to speak with me or my legislative director, John Padgett.  If you have a citizen's group or HOA meeting that you would like me to attend, please let me know.

As always, it is my privelege to represent you.  I still feel fortunate to walk up the State House stairs every day and know that it is you who gave me this opportunity.

Geraldine
